In 2011, the Census approximated that there were just under 15,900 people living in the town. The town has won 5 “Best Kept Town Award” which are awarded by Bloom. The most recent awarded was given in 2006. The Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council headquarters are located in Dungannon.
One notable feature of Dungannon’s layout is the fact that the former police barracks is located in the market square, specifically the top right hand corner. This is interesting due to the fact that, within the rest of Ireland, a barracks has never been placed in an area like that. There is an anecdotal story that says that when the building was made, the plans were mixed with those of Dublin’s. This mean that the station which was designed for Nepal was built in Dungannon. Whilst the barracks in Nepal was built in traditional fashion, which even had a standard Irish Fireplace.
One attraction within Dungannon is Dungannon Park. The park measures at around 70 acres, with a still water lake being the centre piece of the park. Views of the town that surrounds the park can be seen from within and there are many miles of pathways inside the area.
